Summary:                    This is a full-time, ten-month position that provides general classroom
instruction for students with neurological impairment, serious emotional disturbance and/or learning disabilities.  Teaching the students the academic, vocational, and life skills necessary to succeed in school and in the outside world. Improving the student’s ability to interact appropriately with peers and adults.

 

                            

                           

                              

               

                         

 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

·         Ability to effectively and proactively supervise class structure and schedule.

·         Ability to maintain ongoing supervision and evaluation of all students, providing timely and constructive feedback to collaborating personnel and participate in follow-up planning.

·         Ability to maintain documentation and vigilance of student goals and objectives, monitoring progress and reporting successes.

·         Ability to monitor and support implementation of prescribed behavior program.

·         Ability to effectively supervise bus transitions, meals, recess, and other non-academic responsibilities.

·         Ability to demonstrate allegiance to timeliness, schedules and prescribed expectations.

·         Ability to participate actively in staff discussions and collaborate through communication in established team meetings.

·         Ability to implement and evaluate success of prescribed curriculum and quality instructional techniques.

·         Ability to maintain focus on “best practices”, continuously seeking new ideas and techniques to ensure student progress.

·         Ability to participate in planning and implementation of quality in-services.

·         Ability to promote social responsibility and leadership of support staff and students.

·         Ability to maintain a clean and orderly classroom.

·         Ability to display student work and stimulate student interest via bulletin boards and room displays.

·         Ability to store materials safely and provide students easy access to appropriate items.

·         Ability to hang the student’s rules and responsibilities poster in a visible area and refer to the rules/responsibilities poster consistently.

·         Ability to maintain various classroom arrangements conducive to diverse student body.

·         Ability to apply a variety of techniques and approaches to meet the range of student levels and skills.

·         Ability to individualize instruction according to cognitive and academic styles of learners.

·         Ability to engage students in stimulating, multi-modality learning experiences consistent with prescribed curriculum.

·         Ability to consistently apply rules of Positive Behavior Approaches, and prescribed tenets of Green Tree School behavior program.

·         Ability to use appropriate and timely verbal de-escalation techniques whenever possible.

·         Ability to collaborate in a safe physical intervention as necessary.

·         Ability to promote social responsibility and conflict mediation.

·         Ability to encourage students to embrace, multicultural opportunities and experiences.

·         Ability to work Extended School Year program in July/August.

 

Qualifications:

 

·         To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. 

 

Education and/or Experience:

 

·         Instructional I, Pennsylvania State Certification in Physically and/or Mentally Handicapped and/or Elementary education or Preschool education

·         Instructional I certification must be upgraded to Instructional II as required by Pennsylvania Department of Education Standards

·         B.A./B.S. degree in Education or a related field.

·         Ability to effectively communicate in a verbal and/or written manner.

·         Ability to read and interpret documents, instructions and procedure manuals.

·         Ability to write and complete routine reports.

·         Ability to handle and maintain confidential information.

·         Ability to handle multiple priorities.

·         Ability to handle multiple tasks, projects, and assignments.

·         Ability to communicate with coworkers, administration, clients, vendors, and others in a courteous and professional manner.

·         Ability to present in a professional appearance and manner.

·    While performing the essential duties of this job, the individual is regularly required to use hands to finger; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.

·    Ability to stand, to walk, and to negotiate steps/stairs several times a day.

·    Ability to spontaneously interact with the students in their classroom environment by kneeling, stooping and/or crouching as the students move throughout the classroom.

·    Ability to maintain the students’ safety as they move from one area to another area.

·    Ability to participate, implement and assist in prescribed physical intervention techniques in a time of crises.

·    Be able to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
