Meet the Food Staff: Bethanne Reed-Looby

Meet the Food Staff: Bethanne Reed-Looby

School Breakfast Week is the first week of March and is a wonderful opportunity for us to recognize our amazing food staff members! Learn more about Bethanne Reed-Looby, our Lead Food Services Worker, and how important a school meal is to some students.

What is your favorite thing about your job?

I like the consistency I offer to the students. Every day, they know they will see me. I am here for all of them, even the ones that can be challenging. I have learned so much from working in behavioral health.

Why do you feel it is important for students to have nutritious meals at school?

Some of these students may not have food at home. Others may not have anyone to prepare food for them. The important thing is that they know they have one at school.

What does a “day in the life” look like for you?

I have been running the kitchen here for 10 years. There is nothing I can’t do. I do everything from cooking, prep work, paperwork, cleaning, and anything else related to the kitchen. I also interact with the students a lot and occasionally have to break up a fight. There are no breaks at my job. It is a full run until the end of the day.

Do you have any hobbies?

I recently began gardening vegetables. I love sudoku puzzles and watching Philadelphia sports, particularly the Phillies. I have always been a big fan of them.

What is your favorite thing on the menu?

Usually either the hot turkey or Salisbury steak. However, of the new things on the menu, I am a big fan of the chicken fajitas.
